Upcoming projects for MaD
Fusion >
• MaD Gershwin - an
all Gershwin CD, featuring original, hip, contemporary and totally
fresh arrangements of Gershwin classics. MaD Fusion will form the base
of the group, with horns, string quartet and a variety of singers
complimenting the recording. MaD Fusion will also tour with this
project in the 2007-2008 season with the core trio plus horn and
singer, as well as in an expanded arrangement with full orchestra. In
an early incarnation of this project, one reviewer wrote:
"This was post-Miles Davis, post-Bill Evans, post-just-about-everyone
stuff. Gershwin's tunes were at the core of the music, even if you had
to listen pretty hard at times, but the style was contemporary.
Terrific fun" (Ottawa Citizen). And that was just the first draft!
• From Bach to
Brubeck - MaD Fusion with small chamber ensembles, featuring
our original arrangements of classical repertoire - redefines the
term "crossover" and completely turns it on its head. Will also be
arranged for MaD Fusion and orchestra.
• The Three Stages of Truth: an
incredible,
brand new 90-minute
concerto for MaD Fusion and orchestra by "certifiable" New York
composer Gene Pritzker.
• MaD World
- our unique take of world music.
Developing
what Forget Me Not touched upon, MaD World focuses solely on world
music, honing, developing and transforming it through their own lens.
The show
is derived from their direct experiences with great music and musicians
from
all over the world, and includes Arab, South American, Indian, African
and
Yiddish music, among others. Their introduction to much of this music
has been
through their performances with some of the most accomplished
world-music
performers and composers, including Marcel Khalife, Dhafer Yousef,
Theresa Tova
and Paquito d’Rivera. MaD Fusion’s arrangements of the music, while
based in
the real traditions, are wrapped in their unique sound, formed by the
ability
to seamlessly traverse the many styles and disciplines that has become
their
trademark. With MaD World, MaD Fusion adds the styles, sounds and
techniques of
music from around the world to their repertoire, further adding to the
‘stew’
of their musical palette. MaD World both celebrates and renews some of
the
world’s oldest musical traditions to form a show which is truly without
borders.
• The Pop Project -
featuring all original songs with a pop twist and lots of groove,
always with our unique sound.
